Connect your shop Gmail
UpfitOS reads your shop's Gmail inbox and sends replies from the same address, so every customer email lands on the customer's record. To let it in, you create a Google app password — a separate 16-character password that works only for this one connection and can be revoked any time without touching your real Google password.
What you need
- The Google account your shop's email runs on (for example
sales@yourshop.com) - 2-Step Verification turned on for that account — Google only offers app passwords once it's on
- An owner login for your UpfitOS site
Create the app password
-
Sign in to the shop's Google account and open Google Account settings, then go to the Security section.
-
Make sure 2-Step Verification is turned on. If it isn't, turn it on first — Google will not show the app-passwords page without it.
-
Open the App passwords page. The direct link is myaccount.google.com/apppasswords (Google may ask you to sign in again).
If you don't see an App passwords option, 2-Step Verification may still be off — or, on a Google Workspace account, your Workspace administrator may have app passwords disabled and will need to allow them.
-
Create a new app password and name it UpfitOS, so you can recognize it later and revoke it if you ever need to.
-
Google shows the new password once: 16 characters, displayed in groups of four. Copy it now — ignore the spaces, they aren't part of the password. Once you close the dialog, Google never shows it again.
Caution
An app password is a full credential for your shop's email. Never send it by email or text — not even to us. Type it directly into the UpfitOS setup page, and nowhere else. If it ever leaks, revoke it on the same Google page and create a new one.
Enter it in UpfitOS
-
Log in to your UpfitOS site as the shop owner and go to Settings → Integrations. Only the owner login can open this page.
-
On the Gmail (shop email) card, enter your shop's full Gmail address and paste the 16-character app password into the App password field.
-
Click Save. The password is stored encrypted and the app never shows it again — from now on the field displays a
(saved)placeholder, and leaving it blank on a later save keeps the stored password. -
Click Test connection. UpfitOS signs in to the mailbox with the saved credentials and shows the result right on the card. A pass here means the inbox connection is live.
If the test fails, the most common causes are a mistyped address, a copy-paste that picked up an extra character, or an app password that was revoked on the Google side. Create a fresh app password and save it again — saving overwrites the old one. Still stuck? Email support@upfitos.com.
